“When Life gives you curve, flaunt them”
So, I just came up with the news regarding a renowned star Maanvi Gagroo criticizing a clothing brand that used her picture and quoted “Style to Hide your curves” and I thought of writing about it.

Thick, fat, big, huge, curvy. Yes, they are the ones who need to be considered. The fashion industry is growing at a fast rate, no wonder they haven’t considered Plus-Size at all. However, it still lacks what Plus-Size industry desires. In the 1800s, the ideal body shape was a curvy one. However, by 1900s technology became more advanced and the “perfect” body shapeshifted to slim fit body type. In today’s period, several brands are coming with the idea of Plus-Size apparel but there are things that they have missed or maybe ignored it!
5 Things fashion brands must consider regarding Plus-Size market
Step out from the digital world
It has been observed that many brands have initiated the category of Plus-Size but ONLINE! The reason behind shifting it to online are many… well, point out a few-
• Plus-size mannequins don’t look good.
• They prefer thin and beautiful people over “large” ones.
• Not many people prefer to buy Plus-Size apparel at the stores.
• Keeping a few categories at the store for Plus-Size because the rest might not look good on them!

However, this is not true. More than 50% of women prefer Plus-size over standard size. With whatever they are getting on Online portals, lack touch, and feel (but they don’t have any other option available). Plus-size women are ready to spend money only if they get worthy stuff.
Too expensive & lack of quality

After interviewing a few bloggers, it has been observed that they have a plethora of options online serving their size. But most of the time they end up buying nothing as it is expensive or the designs are simple. Some brands like Fable Street and Pluss did come up with Plus-Size but the offerings are less and not at all persuasive.
Considered different from standard size designs
“Stop with the hideous prints and unflattering cuts. We're big, not dead. We want to wear the same styles as slimmer people and do not want to shop in a separate section or store.”
If looking with a keen eye, the designs curated for Plus-Size are either simple or designed in a way to hide their curves. All they want is a size that fits them in the same design offered to “thin and beautiful people”. Designs formed for Plus-Size are stitched in a way that intentionally hides those imperfect parts. Rather than making them hate it, it should curate in a way to love it. Fashion is meant to love and not to hate!

Are we getting accurate fits?
As observed, a brand is willing to offer sizes up to XXL or till 5XL. The real picture has been concealed behind the “body positive” campaigns launched by several brands. Still, 60% of women complain that they can’t get accurate size even at a Plus-Size store.
Are Plus-Size models real?
Well, the above-quoted statement says it all. Yes, the true side of the Plus-Size hasn’t been exposed properly. Brands hire Plus-Size models who are “acceptable”. Plus-size people can’t relate with Plus-Size models at all. They want to see more of shapes than just hour-glass models.
Conclusion
It is high time to show the real picture to people for whom fashion exists. Retailers need to deliver what makes customers happy and not to forget... Plus-Size is a huge market waiting to be treated just like others. It might take one more perfect idea to curate one more Plus-Size brand that might make these women happy out there.
